Her father Bhyrappa was a Police Officer, and mother Rudrama, a simply house wife
Saroja Devi was the fourth daughter of her parent
She received her early education at St. Theresa School in Chamarajpet, Bangalore
She had been learning dance since childhood and was also very interested in acting.
B.Saroja Devi Career
She got her first acting opportunity at the age of 17 in the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidas (1955).
She became the first female superstar of Kannada cinema.
Through B. R. Panthula, in 1957 he entered the world of Tamil cinema. She did many famous Tamil films with M. G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan and Gemini Ganesan.
She was affectionately called Kannadathu Paingili in Tamil, meaning the parrot of Kannada, and respectfully called Abhinaya Saraswati in Kannada, meaning the Saraswati of expression.
She married a businessman, Sri Harsha, in 1967.
She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1969 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992, and the Government of India awarded her the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
She has acted in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films also
Saroja Devi lived a very disciplined life. Whenever she had time, she would spend time working in her garden.
She always encouraged women to become financially independent.
She formed the ‘Saroja Devi Charitable Trust’, which provides medical treatment and education to poor children.
She also served as the vice-president of the Kannada Chalanchitra Sangha
